Don't Eat My Candle Pty Ltd (ACN 689806595, ABN 39689806595) ("we", "us", "our") runs donteatmycandle.com. This policy explains how we collect, use and disclose your personal information, in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Our store is hosted by Shopify.

What we collect

  • Contact details: name, email, phone, billing and shipping address.
  • Order details: what you buy, order history, and your messages to us.
  • Payment details: handled by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Account details: your login and preferences if you create an account.
  • Device and usage details: IP address, browser, pages viewed and what you add to your cart, collected through cookies and similar tools.
  • Marketing details: your email and sign-up source if you join our list, and how you interact with our emails.

Why we use it

  • to take payment, pack, ship and track your order
  • to run your account and give customer support
  • to send emails about your order, and marketing emails if you signed up (you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • to measure and improve the website and show our ads to people who may like them
  • to prevent fraud and meet legal obligations

Who we share it with

  • Shopify, which hosts our store, checkout and customer accounts.
  • Payment providers to process your payment.
  • Our fulfilment partner and delivery carriers, so your order is packed and delivered. They get your name, address, phone and email.
  • Klaviyo, our email and SMS marketing provider.
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram), through advertising pixels, if you accept marketing cookies.
  • Professional advisers, and authorities where the law requires.

We do not sell your personal information.

Overseas disclosure

Some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States, Canada and Europe. We take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Cookies and tracking

We use cookies that are needed to run the store (cart, checkout, security) and, with your permission where required, cookies for analytics and advertising. You can change your choice using the cookie banner, or block cookies in your browser. Blocking some cookies may stop parts of the store working.

Marketing

We only send marketing emails or texts if you sign up or buy and agree to hear from us. Every message has an unsubscribe link. Order and service emails are not marketing and still send.

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. We keep it only as long as we need it for the purposes above or for legal and tax reasons, then delete or de-identify it.

Your rights

You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing help@donteatmycandle.com. We may need to confirm who you are first. If you are in the UK or EU you may have additional rights under local law, such as objecting to processing or withdrawing consent.

Complaints

If you think we have breached your privacy, email us and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Children

Our store is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
